WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE A BOARD CERTIFIED SPECIALIST?

     The purpose of Board Certification by the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners is to recognize the highest standards in the art & science of general veterinary clinical practice and veterinarians, qualified by examination, who fulfill the role of delivering superior, modern, comprehensive veterinary services.

     To become "Board Certified", a veterinarian must first author scientific articles and submit credentials of expertise to a review board. Following the acceptance of his credentials, he must successfully complete extensive examinations before being designated a Board Certified Specialist. Recertification is required every ten years.
